- [Oil Water Separators](https://etank.net/filtration/oil-water-separators/): The oil water separators are designed to separate oil and water, discharging each through its own individual port. We have two units, the 10 gpm and 50 gpm units. These rates are maximums so the 50 gpm unit can do any flow rate less than or equal to 50 gpm. Same for the 10 gpm unit. The units offer sludge baffle with a port to remove heavy solids. They have coalescers to increase the speed of oil separation. Petroscreens are the final step in separating, removing extremely small contaminants to bring the process above 99% efficiency. The oil enters a skimmer and is gravity feed to an auxillary tank, tote or drum. The clean water is gravity fed to another tank, tote or drum for final processing if needed. The difference between the two units is of course the flow rate but also the makeup of the unit. The 10 gpm unit is stainless steel whereas the 50 gpm unit is carbon steel with an epoxy lining. These units operate best when separating low specific gravity oils. Common applications include environment remediation, filtration, spill response, process water introduction, etc. Options and accessories would include, Air Operated Diaphragm pumps, jetting pumps, bag filters, hose/pipe, fittings, flowmeters, road crossings, and mini frac tanks.

We typically use this pump for our filtration setups as the unique pump curve allows us to easily hone in on specific flow rates by introducing artificial head (choking valves). The 2” jetting pump does up to 75 gpm  and maxes at 300’ of head. The 3” option goes up to 140 gpm and maxes at 310’ of head. These are diesel driven pumps. The impellers are completely enclosed to offer maximum efficiency but this drops the solids capability. They are not designed for solids in any magnitude. Common applications would be filtration, environmental remediation, fire protection, sprinkler applications, or high head specific applications. The options and accessories should remain the same as other pumps. For reference, the 2” jetting pump is the pump model 2MP7ZR corresponding to pump curve B on the attached spec sheet. The 3” pump is 2MP13ZR corresponding to pump curve D.

The contractor called E-Tank for a temporary storage system to contain 23,000 gallons of gasoline. But the project plan raised safety issues. The contractor needed to mitigate the risk of stray gasoline vapors igniting due to onsite personnel performing hot work. The solution was to prevent gasoline vapors from being exposed to the atmosphere. This required a specialized equipment configuration.

Part of the pipeline ran underneath a stream with flows ranging between 15,000 and 20,000 gpm.

Part of the project was to remove soil contaminated with PCBs, heavy metals and chemicals which had been used as process catalysts. Any groundwater encountered during the project was subject to the strict effluent criteria mandated by the department of environmental conservation.

The concrete boxes allowed stream water to flow underneath a residential roadway.
- [Leachate at Shopping Plaza](https://etank.net/projects/leachate-at-shopping-plaza/): A recent discovery behind a shopping center led to EPA intervention and subsequent action from E-Tank and E-Pump. The presence of an unknown, milky-white liquid that ran from the shopping center parking lot into a stormwater retention basin prompted an investigation, confirming that the substance was hazardous. While no evidence existed that the runoff, which flowed into a nearby river tributary, had any environmental impact, a pH level exceeding that which is permitted by environmental standards was detected in the retention basin. In the short-term, the contaminated water needed to be contained and treated before being released into the sanitary sewer. A long-term solution was subsequently developed to correct the leachate problem.
- [Gas Station Replaces Underground Storage Tanks](https://etank.net/projects/gas-station-replaces-underground-storage-tanks/): Environmental Contractors that remove or replace underground storage tanks require specialized expertise in dealing with the contaminated groundwater that is commonly encountered during the excavation process. On this gas station project, E-Tank’s customer needed to rent liquid storage tanks, industrial pumps, and specialized filtration equipment to properly handle the contamination that was revealed when they excavated underground storage tanks that had been leaking for years. Petroleum-impacted water discovered during the excavation needed to be removed and treated.
- [Pumping Drilling Mud](https://etank.net/projects/pumping-drilling-mud/): When drilling a new oil or gas well, the “cellar” is a pit in the ground that provides the additional height between the rig floor and the wellhead, allowing for easier installation of control valves. The cellar collects water, drilling mud, and fracking liquids that need to be pumped out. This is done using a pump called a trash pump or mud pump.

But what was to be done with the stream’s ongoing flow over the month-long duration of the project?

The village needed to perform some updates on its pump station; the local government hired an electrical contractor to install both a new control panel and a telemetry system. The biggest challenge? This was the single pump station in the village and couldn’t be out of commission for a month and a half while the contractor worked, without risking a major sewer overflow situation.

Within hours, we arrived on the scene with a complete solution for an emergency sewer bypass: a high-pressure pump, fittings and several hundred feet of hose to meet the demands of the situation.

Fire suppression systems are commonly used on or around heavy industrial tools and machinery. These systems utilize dry chemicals or wet agents to stop fires that may occur. Before the permanent system was completed at a petrochemical processing plant, a contractor needed to test the waterlines and storage vessels that made up the facility’s fire suppression system. They turned to E-Pump because they needed water from a lake significantly far away from the facility. Because of the distance of the lake a road crossing rental was needed to allow the hose to cross access roads without impeding traffic.

The local government was involved, the EPA was involved, and the Environmental Services Contractor handling the situation needed reliable, specialized equipment and a quick response.

The tank had to be drained to perform the fix, and the customer needed additional onsite storage capacity.
- [Sewage System](https://etank.net/projects/sewage-system/): Many cities around the country have combined sewer systems, with wastewater and stormwater traveling the same channels to treatment facilities. Under heavy rainfall, these systems are overloaded, spilling sewage into local rivers and streams. One solution is to build an underground tunnel system that empties water into a retention pond where it can be stored until treatment facilities are able to clean and process it.

The logistics are complex and the projects are always time sensitive. When a natural gas provider needed to perform this type of testing on several miles of gas pipeline, E-Tank was the supplier they called to handle the complex logistics.

- [Mobile Frac Tanks for Pipeline Maintenance](https://etank.net/projects/mobile-frac-tanks-for-pipeline-maintenance/): The surge in natural gas production in northeastern Shale formations has increased the need for mobile frac tanks for “pipeline pigging”. This is a critical process by which pipeline operators clean and inspect their pipelines as part of routine maintenance. This task is accomplished by sending a pipeline “pig”, usually cylindrical in shape, into the pipeline to sweep the pipe by scraping the inside diameter, pushing rust scale and other debris ahead. Frac Tanks are used to store water which serves as a baffle for the pipeline pig and flushes the debris from the line. Frac Tanks are also used to contain contaminated water that results from the pipeline pigging process until it can be properly disposed of.
- [Dry Cleaning Solvent Remediation](https://etank.net/projects/dry-cleaning-solvent-remediation/): E-Tank was called upon to provide 25-Yard Roll-Off Boxes and Mini Frac Tanks for a sensitive, high profile environmental remediation project. Improper disposal of chemical solvents by a dry cleaner from many years past was discovered in the midst of a highly visible commercial center. To ensure public safety, it was critical that all contaminated soil be removed from the area and disposed of properly. But it was also important to minimize the disturbance to the commercial area that could be caused by the remediation process.
- [It Was the Perfect Storm: Municipal Wastewater Flooding Prevention](https://etank.net/projects/it-was-the-perfect-storm-municipal-wastewater-flooding-prevention/): The mid-west has experienced harsh winters in the last few years. When the thaw began in mid-March 2015, there were also several hard rains. Water from the thaw and the storms threatened to overwhelm a municipal wastewater plant in Ohio with twice the volume of water it could handle. To prevent flooding, a rapid and effective response was required. The municipality called E-Tank to provide a solution to the emergency. E-Tank and E-Pump technicians delivered and assembled a system comprising multiple 21k Frac Tanks and a 6 inch Vac Assist High Flow Diesel pump, manifold, and hose was assembled at the site.
- [Clear Lake Lagoons: Contaminated Water](https://etank.net/projects/clear-lake-lagoons-contaminated-water/): With ferric iron levels present that exceeded NY State environmental standards, the Contractor engaged in demolishing a Water Treatment Plant in upstate NY faced a serious challenge: the water in two lagoons was contaminated and could not be safely reintroduced into the environment. The on-site lagoons contained an estimated 200,000 gallons of contaminated water.
- [Wabash River: Groundwater Treatment](https://etank.net/projects/wabash-river-groundwater-treatment/): A city in Western Indiana needed to install a grate in a storm sewer overflow line that would prevent water-borne debris from flowing into the river where the storm line terminated. City Officials imposed a critical restriction on the Municipal Contractor hired to install the grate. The proposed excavation site providing access to the storm sewer line overlaid a decades-old junkyard. Since the 1950s, on this particular site, waste items—particularly old automobiles—were releasing toxins into the soil as they degraded. It was known that pollutants could potentially seep into the groundwater supply within the immediate area. After testing the groundwater, City Officials were concerned that as excavation proceeded, suspended solids containing unacceptable levels of arsenic could leak into the nearby river and then, into the downriver wastewater treatment plant.
- [Standby Fueling Systems for Emergency Generator](https://etank.net/projects/standby-fueling-systems-for-emergency-generator/): A major electric utility contractor in central Ohio was hired to replace underground fuel storage tanks. The tanks supplied fuel to a generator that provided backup power to a computer system that managed critical data for the utility’s distribution system on the eastern seaboard. The project was challenging from a number of perspectives: The system was located in a city center location. During an emergency, if the backup system delivered too much fuel, a hazardous spill could be the result. If the system delivered too little fuel to the generator, the utility risked losing vital computer data.
- [Contaminated Water Treatment by the Millions of Gallons](https://etank.net/projects/contaminated-water-treatment-by-the-millions-of-gallons/): In the steel belt of Western Pennsylvania and Ohio, the industry is in flux. Many once active steel manufacturing complexes have since moved or closed entirely. In the wake of such transition, large mills have been abandoned. The owners of one of these manufacturing complexes decided to begin a project to reclaim the land and make it useful again. The large initiative commenced with the assistance of consultants to advise on the reclamation. Millions of gallons of contaminated water needed treatment and large buildings were torn down and materials recycled. Debris and jettisoned equipment were removed.
- [PCB Oil Spill Requires Emergency Response](https://etank.net/projects/pcb-oil-spill-requires-emergency-response/): An effective response to an oil spill requires trained technical staff, skillful coordination of resources, and a dedicated team of response professionals. E-Tank was called on to supply Roll-Off Boxes, Frac Tank, and a 3” pump & hose to a VA Armory to facilitate the clean up of an oil spill. With the price of copper climbing, thieves began disassembling an old transformer that was sitting at the Armory awaiting proper disposal. But the transformer was filled with PCB oil.
- [Mount Carbon Train Derailment: Crude Oil Storage](https://etank.net/projects/mount-carbon-train-derailment-crude-oil-storage/): A train derailment can threaten public safety and the environment with extraordinary hazards. An effective response is required to minimize damage and first responders require a speedy response, highly trained personnel, and managerial excellence. In 2015, in Mount Carbon, WV, a train hauling 109 tank cars of crude oil from North Dakota to Virginia derailed. To make matters worse, 14 of those railcars carrying crude oil caught fire.
